London Immunologist - CVID

Hi,

I live in Hong Kong and intend to travel to London later this summer.

I have an immunologist in HK, but I'm looking for a second opinion.

Does anyone have any recommendations for someone to see in London ?

Hi Jack,

If you're looking for a clinical immunologist in London, try the Find an Immunologist service that the British Society for Immunology provide. I don't know how easy it'll be to get a private appointment as most immunologists in the UK only tend to do NHS work, but I'm sure that if you contact the consultants secretary/PA they'll be able to say yes or no, and point you in the right direction. john might also be able to help as I know he attends the immunology clinic at Barts and the London NHS Trust, and knows the consultant immunologist there, Hillary Longhurst, very well so he might be able to ask her about it for you.

Hi Jack,
As Sam says I am a PID patient at the Royal London Hospital under Dr Longhurst.
We do have overseas patients in our clinic but I'm not sure how they qualify to be there!
I will ask some of the staff about this when I'm there next week, meanwhile if I were you I would investigate Sam's link above first.
Have you been given a CVID diagnosis in HK? If so sadly I think it's probably correct. CVID treatment is lifelong, terribly expensive and in my experience CVID diagnoses are rarely incorrect.

Dr Ronnie Chee who is linked there is one of the consultants in the "Immunology (clinical) department" at the Royal Free Hospital in London, and although most references to him relate to allergy, he is also apparently very well regarded in immunology as well so it may be worth contacting his secretary for an appointment.

Also if you look HERE you can find immunology specialists in the UK by location, there are 3 listed in London as well as the ones in the link above.

Thanks for your advice. I will look into these leads.

Yes i'm confident the CVID diagnosis is correct. My questions relate more to if and when to start treatment, and what sort of treatment. I'm wondering whether different immunologists might have different advice (and if so, why). So it's that kind of second opinion I'm after.
