Questions about Sub cut and storage of products ie needles

Hi everyone,
Just a quick question. I have started my training for sub-cut,

What I wanted to ask was when doing it in the stomach, do you get stabbing pains a few days after or is this just psychological?

Also, what do you use to store your needles, tubes etc and to set up?

I didn't infuse my stomach, only my thighs.

I keep everything in a big box, in a closet.

Hiya,
A quick answer to a quick question....
I personally don't get any pains a few days later, it COULD be psychological, 'cos it's a pretty strange thing to have to do to yourself, or it could be that you need to mention it to your trainer. Noone has ever told me they get this kind of pain, bruises, small bleeds when taking out the needles yes!
I have tailored the carboard boxes that my kit is delivered in to take my meds and bits and pieces, making dividers out of the same cardboard to seperate the different bits. These much reduced boxes I keep in the cupboard under the stairs, which is cool but not freezing (I use Hizentra), so as long as it doesn't get above 25 deg C it's fine.
I prepare my infusions sitting at the table, with the white sterile paper sheet spread out to keep everything ship shape, then I flop into an armchair and turn on the telly!!!
I have my plasters unwrapped and ready to use when it's over, and I make sure I stick the bottle label s in the logbook before throwing the bottles away!!!

I don't do SCIG, but I do have an insulin pump with a similar subcutaneous cannula (which remains in for 2 days before being changed), and from past experience I do know the sort of pain that you mean. Its probably from you nicking the muscle or from a bit of the product pooling just under the skin as I only tend to get it if I go too close to or in where the subcutaneous tissue is shallow.

Hi.
I don't get any pain after treatment. Sometimes I might put a needle too near scar tissue, of which I have quite a lot, then I have to move it because the pain is too much to ignore. Once it's removed though it's fine, other than the sort of bruising that John described. My treatment bottles of subgam are kept in a small fridge they provided for them. I have a transparent plastic container with a lid which slides nicely under the bed and everything is divided into separate bags. One bag is used to put one treatment worth of equipment in it each week and is then prepared for the next week's treatment. I have a plastic mat and a plastic tray both of which are carefully wiped with the alcohol wipes before everything is opened and put onto the tray ready to use. My lovely husband does the drawing up for me and brings me a cup of tea whilst I relax watching tv. I find it's easier if I relax my tummy and hold the flesh when inserting the needle. Good luck.

Strangely enough this has just happened to me for the first time. I got a really bad stinging pain under one of the four needles, I couldn't get to speak to anyone at the clinic, so I took that needle out and popped a plaster on.
I was halfway through my infusion at this time and I carried on using three sites.
I then noticed that a whole lot of fluid had leaked out from the sore site and past the plaster, so it obviously hadn't gone into any fat!!!
I finished my infusion and my tum felt so sore I put a heated pad on it, and that's how I've spent the rest of today!!!

Caitlin occasionally had pains after infusions but this was generally if we had gone too near scar tissue. We stored everything in the cupboard under the stairs, along with all the other lotions and potions that she uses!

Hi John,
I spoke to my immuno nurse/trainer and she has said the same thing. I still get the pains sometimes, but they are no where near as bad as they used to be and only get them occssionally. That is a really clever way to sort it out. I can see where your coming from. I have bought a sort of table which can be tucked under the chair and brought out when needed (I have to do it upstairs as we have a cat).

Passed training and now doing it at home with support from my husband, I still find it nerve racking but I am sure that will go away in time.

Many thanks for replying. It seems to come after for some strange reason, but I know what you mean, it certainly does hurt when you nick a muscle.

That is why I can't use my thighs, it just leaks out pretty much straight away. I remember when I was training, I ended up coming home with a very wet and sticky skirt (not the most pleasant thing, especially having to travel by bus and train), so the nurse told me to just use my stomach from then on. One thing I have had happen though is normally when I infuse my stomach usually goes hard, but the last time that I did it, my stomach went all squidgy, it was very strange.

I have bought a heatable pad, it definitely comes in handy!

Thanks for replying.
I know what you mean about the lotions and potions lol. I have decided to store mine in a cupboard that we have in the dinosaur room (my husband and I didn't want to take the wallpaper down lol)and have a little fridge to store the product in.

Hi KittyKat,
My tum did feel much better a couple,of days later, and happily it hasn't happened again!
I did my latest infusion yeaterday afternoon, below the navel, and after the swelling had gone down, no sign of having infused at all!!
As with all things in this PID game, never say never, but I'm hoping!!!
I'm happy you seem to like your heat pad, I love mine, makes the whole process so much more of a pleasure than a chore!
The things we have to do to stay well!
