Some GOOD NEWS at last from Gillie

Hi everyone who knows Gillie!

As you know, Gillie has been having a horrendous time battling lymphoma and various other infections, which have caused her to be hospitalised for ages.
I just got this email from Gillie's daughter Philippa, which makes me feel exceedingly happy and optimistic for the family!

"Gillie is doing well.

A CT scan was arranged to check Gillie's tummy. There was a very anxious wait for the results. The CT scan showed no return of the lymphoma, which was welcome news 10 weeks after the last chemo stopped. The shingles has completely cleared up. Gillie continues to work on her rehab physio with determination. She is making steady progress. Her appetite is growing slowly and this continues to be an important focus for her.

She is learning how to use an iPad, so we email her lots of pictures and quick messages through the day. She knows how to reply but her fingertips are still tingly and numb so the touchscreen keyboard is a challenge.

Tommy's very well, and has settled well into the routine with carers. He has been able to go into see Gillie more, for short visits."

Hi all,
I got home from my Cornish Holiday today, to find this email in my inbox, from Gillie's daughters.......
"Dear all,
We are delighted to tell you the lovely news that Gillie is home!
She has had a clear CT scan result, so she has been rubber-stamped as ‘clinically fit’. She continues to be in the care of a range of specialists who will monitor her progress.
We were given a discharge date but didn’t share it as things have a habit of changing last minute – we were really pleased that it all went ahead as planned, on Monday 13th May.
The ‘playroom’ now serves well as a bedroom, with adaptations made to support this very difficult transition.
Message from Gillie:
“I was amazed to see the bagful of cards that the girls have kept for me over the last eight months. I intend to look through all of them again. Thank you all.’
We’ve attached a photo of all the cards, and a very special photograph – her return to her garden (where she promptly asked Lauren to wheel her over to a pot so she could pull a weed).

To all Gillie's friends,
today I phoned Gillie and we had a very pleasant 10 minute chat!
How good is that?
She is in good spirits, still easily tired but she's being cared for by a live-in carer, who she really likes. Gillie says she will get better and better as time goes on, so I can't tell you happy that makes me feel, 'cos we go back a long way now, to the days when we both trained as telephone helpline volunteers at the old PiA.
I'm certain that Gillie looks in on this forum from time to time, so leave her a goodwill message if you can!

Hi all,
I spoke to Gillie this morning and she told me she was feeling much more her old self, which is fabulous news!!
She said she has started driving again, but had lost the forum's contact details, so I emailed them to Philippa, and hopefully we will soon be enjoying Gillies words of wisdom and good humour here again.
It's been a long and hard journey for Gillie and her family and I'm sure we all wish them better luck for the future.
