Medicine Fridges

Hello - could anyone recommend a good mini fridge for the storage of medicines, specifically immunoglobulin vials and ametop cream? We were bought a lockable fridge (coolzone) by GOSH a number of years ago but it has an ice compartment which takes up half the space leaving very little room available. With the sales on we thought we might change it ourselves to something more practicable but I am struggling to find anything suitable online - most have these darned ice boxes in them which are less than useless.

Never thought of that. I have to sore mine in the fridge and it takes up the whole of the draw for what is usually for vegetables and more when fully stocked and as its a built in fridge its not as big as our old one.

I will do some looking too.

I have a feeling that you can get a fridge FREE from the people who deliver the home therapy gear.
I don't do home therapy but lots of the guys I see at the clinic do, and they tell me of fridges supplied for storage.
Worth asking!!

Hey I will mine owe me some Emla cream so phoning them next proper working day. Prob need a script or permission of my consultant as they pay for the supplies. But worth an ask. however they may also say you've done so long without do you really need - well in summer more I do. at the moment outside is fridge for some bottles etc.

My understanding is that you get a free fridge for vials that need to be kept in fridge. I'm on Hizentra which doen't need one so I dont get one, but if you are on anything other than Hizentra I would deinitely enquire if I were you.

That's interesting my American buddy is on that are you in UK? I am on Subcuvia apparently by same company Baxter? If I am right? If so then if I could get hizentra would save fridge space!!! But not sure the equivalent price of each? Obviously more important?

Yes I'm on the UK. Hizenta is made by CSL Behring. I guess it depends what is on your local hospital formulary. My immunology nurses seem to like to try new things. They said that I was their first Hizentra patient and that it is new.

curtis has also been changed to hizentra just before xmaz he had been on subcuvia for years

Another result! New medicine fridge with today's delivery. Calea refused to take away the old one though for us as they didn't deliver it (nice and helpful as they are).. Treck to the tip tomorrow then for Steve and in these conditions.

Not got got mine yet as delivery had only just happened - but must remember to ask again when they phone up. Bupa HC said it would be OK. But will only believe it when I see it.

We used to have Bupa HC and found them to be very good especially in terms of helpfullness but GOSH awarded the contract to Calea when it was up for renewal a few years ago. They are a pain in the neck and wish they had never been awarded it. Hopefully your fridge will be on its way to you soon. We are delighted with ours as it is a proper medicine fridge with no silly ice box.
