Subcut Advice Needed Please

Hi everyone, I'm hoping I can call on your expertise.

I have been doing subcut at home since May. I infuse
40mls of gammanorm over three sites across my tummy once a
week. I've noticed the right side of my tummy becoming increasingly sore when I put the needle in as time has gone on: thought it was just me being a bit of a wimp! But, the last couple of infusions I've noticed increased swelling at this site compared to the others, and quite a lot of oozing after the infusion, really only from this site.

Last night I did my infusion as normal but half way through
noticed it was leaking from this site. The needle was still in but it was leaking out from underneath the tegaderm and had seaped onto my top and pj bottoms. I stopped the infusion and moved the needle and it did settle down, but I wasn't able to place it far away from the original site so there was still quite a bit of oozing: this time from the first and the second one in that area. Don't know if it is a coincidence but I've been more run down and have had an infection over the last three weeks too.

Is this something anyone's noticed before? Am I doing something wrong? Should I be concerned at all?

How many times have you used the area? If you overuse an area with any sort of subcutaneous injection then the tissue can change and stop being able to absorb whats being injected quite as fast so with nowhere else to go it leaks out or into a bubble if it can't.

I would recommend contacting your nurse/doctor to enquire about other possible infusion sites.

Hi Louise

My daughter Caitlin started to have this problem after infusing in her tummy for 4 years, it felt different putting the needles in as well.

For the last 4 months she has started to infuse in her thighs, first with the butterfly needles which she found restrictive due to short tube length she now uses the thalaset needles has has no problems.

I am sure if you talk to your nurse as Sam says they will give you other options.

Hi Louise i had this problem a few times i did subcut for about three years and ended up withv purpleish discoularation on my stomach like fading bruises that didnt go and had the same sensation that after a while it didnt feel the same putting the needles in my stomach tried to infuse in my legs but found this very painful as i dont have alot of fat there, having said that so many probs vith ivig that ime thinking of going back to subcut. Yeah I had this once, I don't think my needle was fully in. I just clamped off that site and the infusion went through the other 3 sites as usual, it just took a bit longer that's all. Didn't seem to make a difference to my health.

Thanks everyone, really helpful info. Just heard I've got an appointment with my immuno in a couple of weeks so will flag it up then with them, fingers crossed the two infusions in the meantime aren't a repeat episode! Louise
