Is bronchiectasis connected to cvid?

Its a simple cheap test to see if your sister has cvid, I think she can insist they test her to rule it out or if no joy from that doctor ask to see a different one,
You could chat with your immunologist and explain the situation and I think they can get in touch with your sisters doctor to get the test done.
I have bronchiectasis because of all those infections I had prior to diagnoses and it was the chest clinic who ordered the right tests,

You can't rule out cvid just from an mri scan.

Definitely yes. I was ill with a terrible cough from 5 to18. I am now 46.
I had intramuscular injections from age 9 after 4 weeks in hospital. Having injections of antibiotics the doctors said you will be better after these injections.

They were so wrong, I had to have more painful injections weekly through secondary school. At 16 I screamed no more my doctor gave me Valium.

But then Iv infusions became available (my mum in 1992) became my home carer. After that my boyfriend now husband of 18 years! I have subcutaneous now - but still need numbing cream.

I have hope of new job in caring sector dealing with mental health. as my diagnosis is Bipolar (mild if possible).

At the moment she is too weak from an appendix operation but said she will approach the doctor again when she next sees him. I told her if she has no joy then I will try and contact my immunologist and see if he can help. Thanks again. Glowing

here's my take on bronchiectasis.
a simple cough is nature's way of clearing our throat, or getting rid of sputum after a bad cold.
it should last a few days until the cold has cleared up.
if you've been coughing for years, every few minutes, day and night, well that is just not right, and it's absolutely bound to cause some problem in the lungs, chest, throat areas.
any long term cough needs to be taken seriously, my dad coughed a lot, but he was a heavy smoker and thought it was just a smokers cough, till he was diagnosed with lung cancer.
in my own case my years of coughing was seen as just about everything except pid. like it was pollution thanks to living in london, then it was asthma, then it was this and that, until i was finally diagnosed with pid.
then after a year or so of ivig the cough went away, and now only comes back when i actually have a breakthrough infection.
i have bronchiectasis, but am sure i wouldn't have it if only my gp had been a bit more savvy!
in all my time of speaking to folk with pids, only the rare exceptions have escaped without some level of bronchiectasis. most everyone tells about their incessant coughing.
luckily mine is not disabling, and i can forget about it until my consultant reminds me that i need a lung function test, and then i see it again!
as i say, this is my own take on it, i hope to be corrected!!

Its strange but I never really suffered with a cough except for the last year before they found out I had cvid, then I didnt' really cough that much even when I had pneumonia so can't put the bronchietasis down from that.

Steve, your lucky to have escaped having bronchietasis and I suppose none of us know whats around the corner but a life of bliss sounds good :-)

John, I had a lung funtion test 8 years ago and it was an awful experience and I did another last december and was dreading it but it was nothing like I had remembered and I sailed through it with no discomfort.
The chap that gave me the test said that my results were so much better than last time so what has changed I told him about my treatment which goes to show the difference between now and then.

as so many people have already said, bronchiectasis is one of the main problems that happen to us if we are not diagnosed quickly after diagnosis. It is SO important to riase awareness of this with GP's, so please can I beg evrey one of you to go to the website abd download as many copies of our POWER OF TEN posters, take them to as many GP surgeries as you can, outpatient clinics (especially chest outpatients or ent outpatients) and lets try and get as many people diagnosed as quickly as we can. Once we have lung damage, we are stuck with it. Those who are diagnosed before they get this are so much more likely to live near "normal" lives. We can't change what has happened to us, but we can change whats happening NOW out there to peole who still don't know why they feel so ill.

GREAT, fabulous, well done you. I am SO passionate about trying to get people diagnosed as soon as possible. I know it doesn't alter anything for those of us who already have lung damage, but by goodness, if our experience can be turned to the good by ensuring that just one person escaped the damaging experiences we have gone through then my word that is an acheivement. How many can we distrubute in a week. Steve Ff & Stev O'n, what is the best way of counting this? Should we do it on facebook, or on the website?
