A week or so ago a family friend died suddenly, in days from Enterovirus D68.
I am not worried about catching it from him, he lived in the city.
He was 25 and had server asthma, which they say put him at greater risk from this bug.
My son was sick a month and a 1/2 ago, in hind sight he probably had this too, they worked together and you know how flu bugs go they pass through a working group. Of course the rest of them it was just a bad cold, but for this poor young man his lungs could not handles it.
My ? is for years now I have avoided sick people, because I catch everything that I get near, and then can't rid of it.
I have been on IVIG since Aug of this year so have only had 3 treatments, so I assume I still need to be careful what I expose myself too.
1 this bug for sure because it has been around for a while, but they figure it has mutated, so the IVIG my not have immunity in it.
2 because I have not been on the treatment for very long.
3 because it was lung problems, a bug that caused cystic fibrosis symptoms that got me on IVIG treatments in the first place, symptoms have greatly improved, I don't stop breathing any more, but still have very thick secretions that I chock on all the time, so I think bugs could spread to my lungs very easily and I can't cough them out.
So I will be doing all I can to avoid this bug. The plus side is that it is getting colder here and it is known to be a problem, Sept, Oct, they say the number of new cases is starting to drop in our area. Although you never really know because if kids are just sick they don't test for it only if hospitalized and it doesn't have to be reported to the CDC.
Just food for thought MG
