At the beginning of April I had a dodgy parathyroid gland taken out. This thing was going mad and working overtime. The result of this was that I had high calcium levels.
Since having had the operation (thank you so much to Mr Palazzo & his team at the Hammersmith Hospital who did an amazing job!) my energy levels have increased beyond belief (I still have CVID, so still more tired than other people, but I now know which day of the week it is, who I am and what planet I live on!!), I no longer am driven crazy by the itching on my arm, I no longer have terrible heartburn, my aches and pains are decreasing almost by the dayand, what is more, I have not had a break through infection since then!!!
I had terrible trouble getting hyperparathyroidism diagnosed. My G.P. knew that I had high calcium levels, but the local endocrinologist refused to test me for HPT (hyperparathyroidism) as she said my calcium levels were not consistently high enough. Want to know what one of the treatments for hypercalceamia is? I.V. fluids. What do I do every week.yep, I.V. fluids (I infuse at home on a weekly basis). When my immunologist tested my parathyroid levels, surprise, surprise, they were high.
Next obstacle. In this age discrimination aware world, the NHS has a ruling that those over 50 should not have the operation to remove parathyroid glands as they assume that the osteoparosis that it causes will not cause too much harm before we die!!!
Now folks, you know me, do you think I'm going to kleave this situation unchallenged!!!!
